The nonprofit City Year Orlando has assigned a new team of volunteers to work with ninth-grade students at Evans High School during the 2013-14 academic year.
The City Year corps members (photo) will assist the ninth graders during math, reading and language arts classes to help improve the students’ academic performance, behavior and attendance, according to Amy Ellis, senior administrator for Evans Community School. The corps members also will provide tutoring after school on Mondays and Thursdays, as well as assist the students during high-school club activities.
City Year is an education-focused organization that unites young people of all backgrounds for a year of full-time service to keep students in school and on track to graduation.
